State Bicycles 4130 Fixed-Gear / Single-Speed – Updated frame/fork and Components

In 2009, State Bicycle Co. emerged into the fixed-gear scene with our original model – the 4130 Fixed-Gear / Single-Speed. Since then, tens of thousands of riders have taken to the streets on the State 4130, drawn to it by its affordability, durability, and classic/timeless styling.  After over a decade of manufacturing and 5+ years since major changes, the 4130 Fixed-Gear / Single-Speeds are getting a full overhaul.

Frame / Fork:

The most significant differentiating factor of the new 4130 Fixed-Gear /Single-Speed Bikes is the redesigned geometry. State Bicycle Co. has employed a wishbone style rear paired with a segmented fork to accommodate larger tire clearance (up to 700x42c) on the frame and fork. These new features give the stiff 4130 Chromoly Steel frames additional compliance for more comfortable rough roads/trails. The frame also features mounts on the fork and rear of the frame to accommodate racks/baskets/panniers; making these bikes perfect for work, commuting, and adventures.

The 4130 still features standard 120mm rear “track” spacing, die-cast drop outs with internal chain tensioners for easier tensioning, threaded bottom bracket, and 27.2mm “standard” seat tube diameter so riders can easily source parts for their build, or use components they already have.

As with its predecessor, the new 4130 bikes still feature Double-Butted 4130 Chromoly Steel frames that are lightweight and built to last with a 5-year warranty on the frame and fork.

Wheels/Tires:

State Bicycle Co. borrowed from its All-Road lineup in order to beef up the wheels on the new 4130 Fixed-Gear /Single-Speed Bikes. Ready for any type of road, the new bikes feature a tubeless-compatible rim (tape, sealant, and tubeless tires will be needed to make the wheels tubeless) suitable for 25x700c to 42x700c tires, laced to a high-flange drilled,32-hole sealed bearing, flip-flop hub so riders can choose to coast on the freewheel or get “fixie” with the fixed-gear size.

The new wheels are paired with a 700x38c stock tire, the largest a rider will find “stock” on a complete fixed-gear anywhere on the market. The “All-Road” style tread is designed for both paved surfaces and hard-packed gravel with a smooth center for faster rolling on the asphalt and scored side tread for traction when cornering and braking. “Our riders are using these in the city to commute or even to work (as messengers). They needed something that could handle rain, snow, and potholes. We think these new changes will really help with all of that, PLUS giving these bikes extra versatility to be used off-road,” Mehdi Farsi (Co-Founder, State Bicycle Co.)

Updated Components:

Those familiar with the 4130 line will remember the feature that allows riders to choose their own handlebars. State has updated the selection on the 4130 with 2 new choices: Wide Risers or the very popular All-Road flared drop bars w/ hoods and levers. Both new bars now come in an oversize 31.8mm clamp diameter with stiffer power transfer and for increased compatibility with the top-of-the-line 3rd-party upgrade.

The crank/chainring has ben redesigned to match the rugged redesign of the frame. The bikes feature a forged crank with 130 BCD, 170MM Crank Arms, and an original 3d modeled 46t chainring that is absolutely eye-catching (especially at this price-point).

Styling:

The 4130 update features 4 new colorways that will be sure to turn heads and riders of all preferences will be sure to find at least one model that fits their taste. Ranging from subdued to “look-at-me” the new models come in: Matte-Black/Mirror, Matte-Olive, “Allouette”, and “Windbreaker” paint schemes.

The new 4130 Fixed-Gear /Single-Speed Bikes were released to the public on March 15th, 2022

MSRP is $549.99 for complete builds.
