If any of you have been to an Outdoor Demo during Interbike in Las Vegas you will probably recognize Boulder City as the home of Bootleg Canyon, the shreddin’ MTB Park that is the home of said Outdoor Demo. Well, pretty much at the base of the mountain sits All Mountain Cyclery and, while I was in Las Vegas recently, I made a point to head out to Boulder City and stop by for a shop visit.
I’d previously sent my friend Marcus to All Mountain to get his fat-bike tires converted to tubeless on the advice of Las Vegas resident and owner of 11Nine Fat-bikes, Lance Sission, who I got to know over the past few Interbike show. Kurt at All Mountain helped get him sorted out and, while I was at the shop, Kurt owner Jeff Frampton and I talked a bit about tubeless in the desert environment. Pretty much a must if you don’t want more practice changing out tubes on your rig! BTW, the guys at All Mountain recommend Orange Seal sealant for your tubeless needs.
While All Mountain is definitely into the downhill scene and renting the latest and greatest Specialized rigs for gravity exploits, what caught my eye was not only that they offer fat-bikes out in the desert, including a couple of Specialized Fatboy as well as a 24” version of the Fatboy for youths or those that may be height-challenged, but have started to embrace the e-bike scene in the form of the Specialized Turbo Levo electric, full-suspension-27.5” Plusbike which they will rent to you if you’d like.
Seeing the Turbo Levo brought to mind a couple of previous conversations that Gomez and I have had about the inevitability of seeing these e-bikes on your local trails. I took the opportunity to chat with Jeff and the shop guys about what they thought and somewhat to my surprise they are totally stoked by the idea. Jeff related that not only are they great to get to the top of Bootleg Canyon without the need for a shuttle truck, he also had a blast on one after a long night in Moab left him a bit low on energy for a ride the next morning! Keeping up with your buddies who’ve been more prudent the night before may be one of the reasons I’m not ruling out the possibility of an e-bike in my future! Just saying’!
I even got to enjoy a Magic Hat #9 from the shop stash! I definitely give All Mountain Cyclery a big thumbs up. If you are in the area, stop by for a visit at 1404 Nevada Hwy in Boulder City. Tell ‘em Sven from fat-bike.com sent ya!
The “E” hangover bike, brilliant! Well if I had cash falling out of my pockets I guess it would be a nice luxury. I screamed “No E Bikes on course” last weekend at everyone that passed me, which was quite a few people.
Sounds like you found a nice hole in the wall. And their fridge was in plain view…
Good riding in that area. Fatbikes and deserts and sand kinda go hand in hand.
Good times out thataway!
