Hope FatSno Pro2 Evo Hubs

The new fat-bike specific Hope hubs have arrived in the US and we’ve got our paws on a set! No, Hope didn’t hook us up. In fact, we didn’t even ask. Yet! With a small number originally shipped we simply let Sven pony up and do it!

The Fatsno is an evolution of the Pro2 Evo already available in a variety of sizes and has proven to be a great design. We expect nothing less from the 170mm rear cassette and the Front Specific 135mm hub with a standard rear disc spacing.

We first spied these at Frostbike back in February and gleened a bit of info then. The production units look absolutely great in their blue anodized glory.

As a super bonus, we are lacing these fan-dancy hubs up to a prototype set of 47mm rims in preparation for 3 seasons of fatbike fun! Keep your eyes glued to this here website as you won’t see these rims anywhere else, yet!

Like all their aluminum-bodied cassette hubs, Hope recommends a cassette with an alloy spider body that holds the larger cogs to reduce wear on the hub body. We’ve got a SRAM PG-990 11/32 ready to go!

  1. Schwwwaaang! those are sweet! Although the weights seem quite light, the front hub seems on par with the Paul, but the rear weight seems waaaay light compared to the comp, Phil is approx 470g and the Salsa 170mm at approx 506g (web listed weights) Still…nice hubs.

  2. Oh yeah ! Gotta get me some of those…..it would be great it they were really
that light but I’ve seen 3 different listings describing the front hub as 250g
and the rear at 345g with out QR’s. Still looking good though….

  3. My bad, all! I updated the story with the actual weights. Just forgot to replace the placeholder weights with the actual! The flogging may commence!

Without QR’s 252g front and 347g rear. Weighed on a Park Digital Scale.

  4. I believe the Front hubs is rear disk spaced. While it is front specific in that it has no engagement interface, the disc mount is spaced as a rear. Thus, front spaced forks (like the WB Snowpack), would need to use a spacer to compensate for the offset difference.

    • Thanks, Nate! I updated the article to clarify the front hub disc spacing as well as add a link to the Hubs on Hopes site.

Here is the front hub specs from Hope’s site:

Front hub is 135mm OLD spacing using standard rear brake disc alignment.

  5. Have used Pro 2’s for years here in Blighty, awesome hubs, bombproof. As fatty hubs they will be ace, will have to pick some up for myself (and the Mukluk!) 😉

  6. I had my LBS build a second wheel set for my Mukluk 3. The rims are Large Marge Lites. The tires are Black Floyds. The hubs are these Hope FatSnos. It’s a great setup for paved trails.

I’m quite pleased with everything but the price. But, we all know fatbikes are expensive. My only real criticism of the hubs is the sound the rear hub makes when you coast. It’s really, really loud. It sounds like a fishing reel with a large fish pulling against the drag. I’ve gotten used to it, but it’s always one of the first things a new riding partner points out.

  7. THAD,
man, welcome to the sound scape of planet HOPE.
They are brill for letting walkers know you are arriving, horse riders lost in transit and ya mates who are too slow………..
    love them HOPE’s.

  8. Could one convert one or both of the hubs to a different axle type as you can do with other Hope hubs?

  9. Hi there, I’m trying to upgrade my specialized fatboy with a hope fatsno rear tub width 190mm, but I can’t find any on line store with stock, can anyone please tell me, where can I find it? Thanks for your help.

    • Hope is a pretty funny name for a bike component company. You have almost no hope of finding a new Hope 190mm Fatsno hub. Look at DT Swiss Hubs. They’re still being made and have a solid reputation for being very serviceable.
